Broken Leg Compensation Amounts

When considering the value of injuries suffered as a result of an assault, the CICA will consider the “Tariff of injuries”. This week we examine how much compensation a Claimant could receive if they suffer a leg injury.

Broken Leg Compensation Amounts

How much compensation can I get for a broken leg?

Compensation Amounts for Broken Legs

The most severe injury that could be suffered here is the loss of a leg, with the compensation for this being £44,000.00 for the loss of a leg from above the knee and £33,000.00 for below the knee.

Where there is the loss of, or total loss of, function of one leg and there is no remaining leg with any useful function, compensation of £82,000.00 will be awarded or where this type of injury involves both legs, whether below or above knee, the compensation awarded will be £110,000.00.

If paralysis of the leg is suffered, £27,000.00 compensation will be awarded.

Compensation amounts for fractured Leg

Considering more specific injuries to the leg, where there is suffered a leg fracture at the thigh bone, or femur, to one leg, and there is extensive recovery, the compensation awarded will be £1,800.00.

However, if there are continuing symptoms, the award could be as high as £4,600.00. If a Claimant is unfortunate enough to sustain fractures to both legs, but there is extensive recovery, the compensation awarded will be £3,500.00.

However, again, if there are continuing symptoms, the compensation will be much higher, with £11,000.00 awarded.

Compensation amounts for Knee Injuries

Moving down the lower limbs to the knee, if there is suffered a dislocated knee cap, or patella, with continuing symptoms, the compensation will be £3,500.00.

Where there is suffered both knee dislocation, with extensive recovery, the compensation awarded will be £1,000.00, however where there are continuing symptoms it could be as high as £6,200.00.

If there is knee fracture, rather than a knee dislocation, with extensive recovery, the compensation awarded will be £1,000.00, though if there are continuing symptoms, it will be £3,500.00.

If instead there are fractures to both knees, with extensive recovery, the compensation awarded will be £2,400.00.

If however there are ongoing symptoms, this could be as high as £6,200.00. If it is necessary for the removal of one knee, the amount of compensation to be awarded will be £1,800.00, though if there is removal of both knees, compensation in the sum of £3,500.00 will be awarded.
